The Konak
The story of a Gaziantep mansion built in 1319 and carefully restored.
An Antep mansion since 1319
Dai Konak is a stone mansion set within the historic fabric of Gaziantep, close to the castle and the old bazaars. The date it carries is 1319. For more than a century, families lived, shared meals and welcomed guests in the rooms around the same courtyard. Today those rooms open their doors again with the same spirit of hospitality, this time as a boutique hotel.
A restoration that respects the stone
We restored the mansion with one principle in mind: let the building speak for itself. The pale cut-stone walls, arches, window frames and carved doorways that give Antep houses their character were carefully cleaned, and missing pieces were completed faithfully to the original. The courtyard floor, the tall arch of the eyvan and the wooden ceilings have kept their original character.
Modern comfort has been added quietly. Rooms have air conditioning, heating, Wi-Fi and new bathrooms, yet the coolness of the stone, the calm behind thick walls and the morning light falling into the courtyard still belong to the house itself.
The courtyard and the eyvan: heart of the house
In traditional Antep homes, life happens in the courtyard, and Dai Konak is no different. The courtyard is always open for breakfast, an afternoon coffee or long conversations in the cool of the evening. The eyvan, a vaulted open-fronted hall facing the courtyard, offers shade in summer and cosy corners in winter, and is the favourite spot of many guests.
Days that begin with an Antep breakfast
Gaziantep is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, and starting the day with a good breakfast is almost a local tradition. Our breakfast table brings together regional cheeses, zahter (wild thyme blend), red pepper paste, olives, seasonal vegetables and some of the city's best-loved flavours. It is not about an elaborate buffet; it is about a table that feels prepared by a caring host.
In the heart of the old city
Step out of the door and you are in the old streets of Gaziantep. The castle, the coppersmiths' bazaar, historic caravanserais and covered markets are all within walking distance. Exploring the city by day and returning to the quiet of stone walls in the evening is one of the most natural ways to experience Antep.
Hospitality
At Dai Konak there are few rooms and plenty of attention. We like to get to know our guests, answer their questions about the city and help with small suggestions for their plans. Take a look at our rooms or get in touch with any questions. We look forward to welcoming you.
